Shop for Fabric
The Internet makes shopping for the perfect fabric so much easier. There’s not much you can’t find online somewhere. Just be aware that colors vary widely from computer monitor to computer monitor. So, if you’re looking for a particular color or feel to your fabric, it’s a good idea to order a swatch.
Fabrics-store.com
Hands down, this is the best place to buy linen online! Best prices, great colors, lots of different weights, and the owner is a reenactor himself.
Fabric.com
Good for all-purpose fabric shopping. They sell wholesale to the public, and have a coupon page here.
PeriodFabric.com
This site is run by a US Civil War reenactor who also owns Hamilton Dry Goods in Sparta, Tennessee. Many of the items are out of stock, but they do have a good collection of wools at a decent price. The pages haven’t been updated in a while, though, so we recommend calling to be sure they have what you want.
Dharma Trading Company
If you’re looking for any kind of white silk, this is your best bet. They specialize in dye projects, so they only carry white. But you can get it in several weights and by the bolt –sometimes as low as two or three dollars a yard. Habotai, gauze, chiffon, dupioni…it’s all here.
