This is a good comprehensive video detailing the steps in creating a steel buckle using house nails. Although the video shows using power tools like a metal bandsaw and grinder, everything could be done with hand tools provided you have a reasonable heat source to soften the metal. Supplies needed will include a small piece of square stock steel approximately 1/2″ x 1/2″, a metal hacksaw, a large nail and a small nail, vice grip pliers, a mill file, and a set of pliers with smooth jaws, a ball peen hammer, and something to make the hole in the strap end. A drill, metal punch or nail would work. Heating can be done with map gas. Then all you need is a shoe or belt to put your new buckle on. Enjoy!
