Nalbinding is an ancient precursor to knitting. It uses long lengths of yarn which are knotted into shapes using a thick bone needle. A pivot is used in Nalbinding when you have a length of stitches and then work around them in a spiral. This is useful for socks, bags, mittens, etc. This video shows you how to work a pivot in York stitch, but it works the same way with other stitches like the Oslo stitch.
